When you make your plans to travel to Miami, there’s one more place you need to add to your list: The Miami Design District. Besides being a cultural and design center with luxury stores, this district offers amazing Instagrammable places that you can’t miss.
The the walls and floors of the Miami Design District speak for themselves. Design floods this district, and the love for art and architecture is contagious as soon as you step foot in it.
Personally, I think the Miami Design District is a great opportunity to connect with art, design, and culture during a relaxing trip. You can also take advantage to have a coffee or eat in some of its shops, or make a stop at Mandolin, a Greek restaurant very close to the Miami Design District.
For those who don’t enjoy visiting museums so much but do enjoy connecting with modern art and design in a different and original way, the Miami Design District is a place you can’t miss.
Next, we’ll list a couple of reasons why you should include this spot on your must-visit list, and then we’ll explore all the most Instagrammable spots you can’t miss in this district!
Reasons to visit the Miami Design District
Palpable Miami Culture: If it’s your first time visiting Miami or you’re lucky enough to return to this beautiful city in Florida, the Miami Design District is one of those places where Miami culture is represented in all its splendor. Warmth, modernity, creativity, avant-garde, and art, accessible to everyone.
Public Art Exhibitions: In addition to walking and enjoying the spectacular decor of this district, you’ll come across famous exhibitions such as the Fly’s Eye Dome or Le Corbusier, which I’ll show later in the post in the list of Instagrammable places in the Miami Design District.
What I like most about the district is that wherever you look, you find an attractive and different artistic intervention. A space full of joy, colors, and creativity.
In addition to public art exhibitions, in the Miami Design District, you’ll find the Moore Building, with its well-known installation “Elastika,” created by the renowned architect Zaha Hadid. You can also visit the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami.
Wide and original gastronomic offer:Let’s not deceive ourselves! One of the best activities in Miami, besides going to the beach, is enjoying the diverse gastronomic offer that exists in the city.
In the Miami Design District, you can discover various restaurants such as Swan, Mandolin Aegean Bistro (my favorite), Pura Vida, among others!
Latest Fashion Trends:The Miami Design District is not only home to thousands of recognized luxury stores, but it stands out for its fun and original shop windows. No matter if you’re not going to buy anything, the brand tour is worth it!
Enjoy a walk through the original and striking shops that run through this district.
Weatherproof: Miami is a very tropical city, and there won’t be a lack of cloudy days when you visit! The Miami Design District is a spot you can visit even when the clouds fill the sky! However, it’s open, so if it rains, I recommend going when it stops raining, or after the rain passes.
That said, when you visit the Miami Design District, keep in mind the most Instagrammable spots in the area!
The most Instagrammable spots in the Miami Design District
- Fendi Gallery
The Fendi store in the Design District is amazing, and it has a corridor with columns with vibrant and striking colors. Although the colors are always changing, don’t miss taking a photo in this corridor!
- Fly’s Eye Dome, at Palm Court
Undoubtedly another emblem of the Design District that you can’t miss. After visiting this sphere, you can take the opportunity to explore the surrounding stores and continue discovering the corners of the Design District.
Keep in mind that you can also enter the dome and take a photo from inside!
- Facade of designer Sou Fujimoto
The first time I went to the Miami Design District, this blue facade caught my attention. I loved learning later that the Japanese architect, Sou Fujimoto, was inspired by Florida’s relationship with water and its unpredictable climate to create it.
- Dior Pop-Up cafe
f you use Instagram, or follow any influencers, you’ve probably seen photos at the Dior Pop-Up Café in the Miami Design District.
The café is located on the terrace of the Dior store in the Design District and offers coffees, teas, and a variety of pastries to enjoy outdoors.
- Konstantin Grcic: Netscape
Work by German designer Konstantin Grcic, Netscape is an assembly of chairs suspended on an iron structure. One of my favorite places in the Miami Design District!!
- Le Corbusier, Xavier Veilhan
Also located in the Palm Court, this bust of Corbusier can be appreciated next to the luxury stores like Hublot and Bulgari, among others.
- The Museum Garage
The name says it all! Who said that the facade of a garage couldn’t be a work of art? In this case, five designers were in charge of designing this facade, each with their own style, to then assemble their designs in this monumental work of art.
The surprising thing is that none of the designers knew each other’s work, but still, it’s a spectacular icon of the Miami Design District, bringing color and energy to its streets.
Having nothing to do with each other except the colors, this facade reminded me of the Pompidou Museum in Paris.
- Nuage, by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec
An original pergola designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, which provides shade and style to the Miami Design District is another ideal space to take a photo in the district!
Definitely not your conventional shade source!
In addition to these Instagrammable spots, practically anywhere in the district is worthy of taking a photo! In this neighborhood, everything takes on a creative sense: its sidewalks, walls, and plants. You can’t miss it!
